Below are some fun facts that you will learn on the tour:

  • Did you know that Detroit has America’s second largest theater district?
  • Did you know there are 125 bars and restaurants in the one mile square of downtown Detroit?
  • Did you know the Marriott at the Renaissance Center is the tallest hotel in America?
  • Who gave the fist sculpture to Detroit as a gift? (Sports Illustrated to celebrate an anniversary of the DIA)
  • Why is 8 Mile Rd. called 8 Mile? Because it’s 8 miles from the exact original center of Detroit in Campus Martius.
  • What is the origin of Campus Martius? It comes from the Latin term “Field of Mars,” who was the God of War. It was named that because 90,000 Michigan soldiers trained at the site before serving the Union Army in the Civil War. The tours are offered in all major cities in the world. The Detroit tours are offered every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The tour costs $55 a person. All participants must be 16 or older. For more information, visit www.insidedetroit.org.

Rave Review from a Midtown Resident

I recently had one of the best experiences in my 2 plus years living in the D.  I’d seen the ads for a walking tour of Detroit a few times and had filed it away as something that I needed to do.  Having some friends in from the suburbs on a lazy Saturday finally got me to a walking tour through Inside Detroit (www.insidedetroit.org).

I can honestly say it was one of the best things I’ve done since I moved down here and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get to know some more about this wonderful city.  It was a great mix of architecheture, history, great places to eat and drink, cool places to shop, and interesting people.  I highly recommend checking it out. Be ready for a high energy and enthusiastic couple of hours that will make you happy that you live here. – Larry
