Thinking of Summer….

On this sweatshirt weather day in the middle of February in Detroit, our minds start to wander and we start to think of the warm days of summer. Then we start thinking about the wonderful tours we can take you on.

Like our Segway Tours that will show you what makes Detroit shine, including major landmarks, new developments and historical gems. You’ll zoom along the beautiful Riverwalk, get up close and personal with the Stadiums and Fox Theater and even stop and go into the gorgeous Guardian Building, all while enjoying the amazing speed and mobility of the revolutionary Segway!

Our wonderful Walking Tours, some of you were able to experience those during Winter Blast!

During the spring and summer we will offer our Discover Detroit Tour.
Where you will see all the major landmarks, the new development and some of the great historical spots from an Insider’s perspective. Additional tours include Architecture, African-American History, Entertainment Options and more.

And our ever popular Inside Eastern Market Tour, on this two hour tour of Eastern Market we will take you behind the scenes of the largest historic public market in the country. We’ll talk about the history, culture and new development as we step inside lofts, shops, restaurants and more all the while hearing from the Insiders that help the market thrive.

Worlds Largest Group Hug Saturday!

On Saturday February 12th at 7:00pm Inside Detroit will be striving for a chance to beat the Guinness Book of World Record for the Worlds Largest Group Hug! This HUG effort will be held during the annual Motown WinterBlast Celebration!

Buttons for this special event are only $1 and all proceeds go to Inside Detroit to help maintain the Welcome Center and the tours you’ve come to know and love!

Early registration for the Motown Winter Blast is open all this week at the Inside Detroit Welcome Center, 1253 Woodward Ave, just one block north of Campus Martius Park. Bring canned food or book donations to the Matrix Human Services collection container in our Welcome Center anytime this week and pick up your WinterBlast wristband. You’ll also get instructions for Saturday’s HUG.

On Saturday evening HUG check-in begins at the Welcome Center at 5:30PM. The count for the official Record Breaking HUG will take place at 7:00PM, around Campus Martius Park. At 6:30PM, an announcement will be made over the Campus Martius Park Skating Rink speakers asking HUGgers to start lining up.
Inside Detroit volunteers, holding HUG signs above, will be disbursed around the edge of Campus Martius Park. Find one of them and they’ll direct you exactly where to line up.

At 7:00PM, You’ll hear the song “Hello, Detroit” played over the CMP Skating Rink speakers while our volunteers count the number of HUGgers. At the end of the song, we’ll all HUG!

WinterBlast is almost here!

MOTOWN WINTER BLAST 2011

Motown Winter Blast is a unique combination of hip and fun winter events that are centered on Campus Martius Park. This years features include The Ambassador Bridge Snow Slide, a Lunchtime Opening on Friday Thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and donation of a book, food or $1 at the door to benefit Matrix Human Services.  Don’t Miss it!

Inside Detroit will be offering a variety of tours and events.  We have listed them below, ranging from our Guinness World Record Group Largest Hug to Free Walking Tours and a Bar Tour. And, as always, our Welcome Center will be open Monday – Saturday from 11am-6pm for all of your local Detroit merchandise shopping needs!

World’s Largest Group Hug                                         FREE

Inside Detroit, a nonprofit whose mission is to promote Detroit as a preferred destination to live, work and play is leading the charge to attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Group Hug right here in Detroit.

Inside Detroit wants to get Detroiters and Detroiters-at-heart involved now to bolster excitement for, and participation in, the attempt by selling buttons that say “I Hug Strangers in the D”. Buttons are only $1 and are available at the Inside Detroit Welcome Center located at 1253 Woodward (one block from Campus Martius Park).

The record-breaking hug attempt will be made Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. during Detroit’s annual Winter Blast Festival. Supporters of Detroit will be asked to gather around Campus Martius Park in an attempt to break the record set in Transylvania in 2009 for the most hugs at one time. More than 10,000 people will need to “hug” Detroit to take the record.

Free WinterBlast Walking Tours                                FREE

If you’re coming down for the Winter Blast, join Inside Detroit for this short tour where we’ll show you some of Detroit’s fabulous architecture, introduce you to cool small businesses and take you inside one of the new luxury lofts. We’ll stay warm by going inside Detroit’s greatest assets right around the Winter Blast.

WinterBlast Bar Tour                              $15

Thousands of people will be coming downtown for the Motown Winter Blast and Inside Detroit wants everyone to know that just steps beyond the festival they will find 130 bars and restaurants, over 13,000 theater seats, world renowned architecture and a small-town energy that is unique to a big city like Detroit.
This bar tour will take you inside 3 great bars right around Campus Martius and the Winter Blast. If you want to play darts, sip on a martini or just warm up a little, Inside Detroit will show you where to go and give you the inside scoop.
Inside Detroit will make you feel like an insider by introducing you to owners, getting you drink specials and filling you in on Detroit’s interesting history and latest developments.
