Southwest Detroit: A DIA Bus Tour with Photographer Michelle Andonian
Saturday, February 25, 2012
10:00 am – 4:00 pm (departure and return at the DIA)
$60/$47 for DIA members (includes lunch at historic Vince’s Ristorante)
Inside Detroit and the Detroit Institute of Arts present a bus tour in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition Detroit Revealed: Photographs, 2000-2010. Exhibition artist Michelle Andonian grew up in Southwest Detroit, and on this bus tour she shares stories about her development as a photographer in this vibrant community and the factories that have been central to its history. Stops include vistas of the Rouge River Plant and Zug Island followed by lunch at Vince’s Restaurant. The bus returns to the DIA at 1:30 for a tour of Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry murals and Detroit Revealed with Michelle Andonian.

All bus tours are Saturday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM and begin at the Welcome Center.

Woodward Corridor Tour 1st and 3rd Saturdays $25
Billions of dollars in development have happened along the Woodward Corridor in recent years from large-scale renovations of major institutions to numerous small creative businesses popping up. This tour will take you through Downtown, Midtown and New Center for a look at the history, culture and renaissance of Detroit’s vibrant city center. Greater Downtown Community Tour 2nd and 4th Saturdays $25
The themes that are shaping the new Detroit are community, collaboration and opportunity and on this tour you’ll see how those themes are woven throughout a world class city. The route includes all the major landmarks as well as Earthworks Garden, the Heidelberg Project, Rivard Plaza/Dequindre Cut, Belle Isle, the Guardian Building and much more. By the end of this tour you’ll have an insider’s perspective of Detroit’s rich history, current Renaissance and limitless future.Highlights include:

- Eastern Market
- Midtown
- The Heidelberg Project
- Historic Indian Village

PEOPLE MOVER TOURS
Every Saturday 2PM – 4PM $10 per person
See all the major landmarks, the new development and some of the great historical spots downtown. You’ll stay warm by using the People Mover and going inside the Guardian Building, Renaissance Center and the Lofts at Merchants Row. From great places for food and drink to world renowned architecture this tour will show you downtown from an insider’s perspective. Highlights include:

- Second Baptist Church/Underground Railroad
- Theater District
- Renaissance Center
- Lofts at Merchants Row Development

Segway Tours
Will be provided by Segways2U in 2012, please feel free to contact them at 313-477-8941
Segway tours will show you what makes Detroit shine! Both tours include zooming along the beautiful Riverwalk and around town. On the downtown tour you’ll get up close and personal with the Stadiums and Fox Theater and even go into the gorgeous Guardian Building. The Dequindre Cut tour is more of a “country” tour and will take you to Eastern Market, Lafayette Park and the Dequindre Cut. All while enjoying the amazing speed and mobility of the revolutionary Segway!
Please review
Rider Requirements before purchasing. Segway training begins at the appointed hour, not before. Closed-toe, flat shoes are recommended. Heels are not conducive to riding.
Rain Policy: Tours will be run in light rain. Please dress appropriately. In the case of severe weather, tours will be postponed until later in the day or reschedule for another day. Segways2U will make the decision to cancel a tour one hour before tour time. They’ll call the phone number you provide in the case of postponement or cancellation. If you do not hear from Segways2U the tour will go forward at the appointed time.
Refund policy: No refunds will be given unless a tour is canceled by Segways2U. Please consider the weather, temperature and other engagements when booking your tour date/time.

FREE 4th Friday’s Downtown Detroit Highlights Walking Tour
City Cycle with Inside Detroit
Our bike tours are over for this season, but will be back next year, so keep your bike in tip top shape and we’ll see you in the spring! There is no better way to see and experience our city than on a bicycle. The sights, sounds, and even the smells of Detroit stimulate and excite the senses. Bike Tours will be leisurely rides of 10 to 12 miles at a relaxed pace, suitable for all abilities. We’ll make a few stops along the way with a stop of about 45 minutes for food/drink in the middle. Please bring money for any purchases. Helmets and signed waivers are required for all riders. Tours start at Inside Detroit’s Welcome Center at 1253 Woodward promptly at 11AM on designated Sundays. All tours are guided by city residents who are active cyclists and city enthusiasts.
Cost is $20 person.
Bikes are not provided.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy: Refunds will not be given for tours. If necessary, tours may be rescheduled for a later date according to availability. Walking tours may be postponed due to inclement weather which will be determined by the Inside Detroit guide one hour before tour start time. If more notice is required due to travel time to Detroit, please ensure Inside Detroit is aware of actual travel time. All tours cancelled due to weather will be rescheduled.
